Denture Care Tips
Any advice on taking care of my dentures?
Dentures require delicate handling when they are out of your mouth. They are actually quite fragile. When you are handling your dentures for whatever reason, do so over a forgiving surface, like over your bed. If you are handling them in the bathroom, do so over a sink full of water and with folded towels on the countertop. A denture falling even a short distance on to a hard surface can break. Dogs, by the way, seem to find dentures irresistible, so when they’re not in your mouth, keep them in a secure spot.Just because you wear dentures does not mean you don’t have to practice good oral health techniques. Just as with natural teeth, dentures need to be brushed to remove food particles and plaque. While a conventional toothbrush with soft bristles can do the job, your dentist or pharmacist can steer you to brushes specially designed for dentures. You can also talk with your dentist about an appropriate cleaning agent. Talk with your dentist for other tips on caring for your dentures.
