DIGITAL DENTAL RADIOGRAPHY
Dental professionals today are increasingly using digital dental radiographs (digital X-rays) to better detect, diagnose, treat, and monitor oral conditions and diseases. Digital radiography is a type of X-ray imaging that uses digital X-ray sensors to replace traditional photographic X-ray film, producing enhanced computer images of teeth, bone, and other oral structures and conditions.
There are several advantages of digital x-rays over traditional x-rays. Sensors are much more sensitive to x-radiation than films are. So, the radiation can be turned down to less than one-third of what it would be for films. Digital images are much clearer and much larger than film images, so they are much more diagnostic. You see x-ray images immediately on a computer monitor, rather than needing to wait for films to be developed, so you know if you have captured what you need to see right away. Since there is no developing and fixing required, there are no chemicals that used to pollute the water system. Digital x-ray images never degrade over time, like traditional films do, so those images are always just as good as the day they were taken!
